TMV Lauds FG for CNG as Alternative Energy Source
The Tinubu Media Volunteers have
applauded the efforts of the President Bola Tinubu administration for rolling out Compressed Natural Gas as a cheaper alternative to Premium Motor Spirit (petrol).
The TMV sounded the whistle of applause against the backdrop of the indication that CNG would be made available to Nigerians at N230 per litre, far cheaper than the prices of petrol.
In a statement signed by its Chairman Chukwudi Enekwechi and Secretary Sunday Shedrach Gyungoun, TMV argued that the CNG initiative will provide motorists in the country with improved engine efficiency and will save costs on engine maintenance.
The statement read in part: “We take this position bearing in mind that the CNG is a cheaper source of energy that will sell at the price of N230 per litre.
“Apart from being cheaper than PMS, it is also a cleaner source of energy compared to petrol.
“Also, Nigeria as a country will be in a position to save foreign exchange since it has an estimated 187 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves. So, in essence, CNG is a wholly domesticated source of energy as importation is completely eliminated.
“We are delighted that in a bid to make the CNG available to Nigerians, the federal government has recently placed order for one million CNG kits, as well as facilitating CNG conversion stations across the country.
“Furthermore, the use of Compressed Natural Gas in powering our vehicles will add to the lifespan of the vehicles, unlike PMS.
“We also acknowledge that the decision of the federal government to provide CNG as alternative source of energy in the country is in line with the federal government’s target of achieving universal clean energy access by 2030, as well as meeting the target of net-zero emission by 2060.
The group implored Nigerians to take advantage of the opportunity to consider switching to CNG as an alternative to PMS.
