Housewife Remanded for Unauthorised Withdrawals from Husband’s Account

An Osogbo Magistrate’s Court in Osun State has ordered the remand of a housewife, Mrs Deborah Olujaiye, for allegedly stealing from her husband.

Deborah was accused of withdrawing a large sum of money from her husband’s bank account without his approval.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Kayode, informed the court during the arraignment on Thursday that the defendant, a resident of the Olude area of Osogbo, stole the sum of N6,333,700:00 from her husband, Joseph Olujaiye.

Kayode said the woman, aged 30, committed the offence at about 10:00 pm on August 19, 2024.

The sole count preferred against the accused reads: “That you, Olujaiye Deborah, on the 19th day of August, 2024, at about 10:00 pm at Olude Area, Osogbo, in the Osogbo Magisterial District, did steal the sum of Six Million Three Hundred and Thirty-Three Thousand Seven Hundred Naira (N6,333,700:00) only, the property of one Olujaiye Joseph, and thereby committed an offence of stealing, contrary to and punishable under section 390(9) of the Criminal Code CAP 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.”

She pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Her defense counsel, Tunbosun Oladipupo, made efforts to move an oral bail application, but the presiding Magistrate, M. A. Olatunji, asked the defense to approach the court with a formal bail application.

Olatunji ordered that Deborah be remanded in a correctional center.

The matter was adjourned until November 20, 2024, for mention. (The Guardian)
