KWASU Soon to Begin Academic Activities in Ilesha-Baruba, Osi, Communities Urged to Prepare

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Kwara State University (KWASU) Governing Council, Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali, OON, has called on the people of Ilesha-Baruba and Osi to prepare for the arrival of the University’s staff and students, as academic activities are set to commence in the two communities.

Professor Ambali made this appeal during visits to the palaces of the Emir of Ilesha-Baruba, HRH Professor Halidu Abubakar, and the Oba of Osi, HRH Oba Salihu Abdulkareem Adasofegbe Arowobeku I.

The visits were part of the Governing Council’s tour to assess the progress of construction on the campuses.

He revealed that over 1,200 students from the Faculty of Agriculture and 180 students from the Faculty of Environmental Sciences are expected to begin their studies on the campuses in the 2024-2025 academic year.

He expressed satisfaction with the progress of ongoing construction, noting significant improvements.

Professor Ambali assured the communities that the State Government, in collaboration with KWASU’s management, is committed to starting academic activities on the campuses, fulfilling the aspirations of the local people and bringing substantial development to the regions.

He congratulated the communities for being chosen as sites for the new campuses and urged the traditional rulers to prepare their people to warmly welcome the incoming students.

In their responses, the Emir of Ilesha-Baruba, Professor Halidu Abubakar, and the Oba of Osi, Oba Salihu Abdulkareem Adasofegbe Arowobeku I, expressed eagerness to host the students, promising to extend the best of hospitality to them.

The Emir of Ilesha-Baruba highlighted the cosmopolitan nature of his community, which hosts the largest livestock market in West Africa. He encouraged KWASU to establish a Veterinary Sciences department within the Faculty of Agriculture to enhance livestock development in the State.

Both traditional rulers praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his efforts in actualizing the dream of operational campuses in their domains, pledging their support to integrate both staff and students into their communities.

KWASU, which was initially designed as a multi-campus institution with sites in Malete, Ilesha-Baruba, and Osi, is now close to realizing this vision, thanks to the concerted efforts of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, 15 years after the University’s establishment.
