Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state has pledged to rebuild the looted and razed Katagum local government Secretariat in Azare during a violent protest that erupted in the area.
The governor, who made the pledge on Thursday when he visited Azare to assess the level of damage caused by the hoodlums who hijacked the #EndBadGovernance protest, also promised to reconstruct the vandalized home of the immediate past deputy governor, Alh. Baba Tela.
He also promised that the state government would renovate the Government Lodge that was vandalized during the incident last Monday.
“Half of the Secretariat was set ablaze while other parts were looted including the Information and Communication Technology department where salary is being processed,” he said.
Mohammed said that the government would go to the drawing board to redesign the facility which is the seat of administration and the second biggest council in the state.
He pledged to declare a state of emergency in rebuilding the council secretariat.
Mohammed pledged to support the ex-deputy governor, Baba Tela and another Islamiya school that was vandalized.
He however, urged the perpetrators of the incident to heed the warning of the government, adding that they hurt the people and themselves and not the government.
Mohammed visited the Emir of Katagum, Alh Umar Farouq II where he expressed concerns about the government’s failure to cater for the needs of the youths, adding that the government has heeded the warning of teeming youths.
