GHS @ 57 : Lawyer harps on high moral standard, honesty in school curriculum
An Ilorin based legal practitioner, Mr Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), has stressed the need to input honesty, integrity and high moral standard in School curriculum.
Jacobs made the call on Saturday while delivering a lecture at the Government High School , Ilorin Old Students Association 57 Year Anniversary.
According to him, the curriculum must emphasize the importance of integrity and high moral standard to rescue the children from embracing fraud.
He said high moral teachings must start from the basic as corruption has hitting deep into the fabrics of the young and old in the country.
” Corruption is a national crisis that we need to arrest. There is corruption in every sector be it educational, political, economic and every aspect of the country system.
” There is massive Internet fraud in the country which most of our children have embrace without caution.
” Corruption is not limited to politicians. It is becoming a norms for both old and young people.
The school curriculum must be programe to emphasise the importance of moral standard, honesty and integrity to safe the upcoming generation,” he said.
He called on religious leaders to focus more on teaching moral standards and condemn fraudulent acts.
Jacobs also advised parents to inculcate right values into their children and stop celebrating their children who make their money through fraud.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria also called for Change of Attitude and echoed the need for National Orientation Agency to have the right engagement with citizens.
He also advised the Old students of Government High School, llorin to take good care of their health and do more of exercise.
Jacobs also admonished the students of the school to emulate the Founding Father of the School, Late Alhaji AbdulGaniyu AbdulRasaq.
He described the Late AbdulRasaq as a role model worth emulating with his investment in education sector.
” Baba has made history. The First SAN in Northern region. Nobody can take that away,” he said.
The National President, Government High School Old Students Association (GHOSA), Mallam Raji Mohammed said the celebration is aimed to observe the founders day with pomp and pageantry.
Mohammed said the old students are celebrating the 57 years of GHS, celebrating 8nos classes and remembrance prayer for the founder of the school, Late AbdulRasaq SAN ( First Mutawale of Ilorin).
He also urged the Alumni to dedicate their energy on mentorship of the future alumni.
” We want to have future alumni that we will be proud of. We are only successful if mentorship is given adequately to our learners.,” He said.
He also said the old students have been committed to given back to the school and that has been a culture among them.
On his path, the Principal of GHS, Mr Isa Waheed commended the Alumni for their contributions to the school development.
He called for support on providing laboratory equipment and water for proper utilisation of the available students toilets.
The anniversary was spice with cultural display by the students of the school.
The Old Students Association also presented an award and cash gifts in different category to the school principals, teachers, Three best performing students and the classes of the 8 alumni. The classes celebrated are 74 set, 79, 84, 89,94, 99, 04 & 2009 ).
