Tinubu, APC Governors Meet Over Nationwide Protest Threats

In a last-minute bid to address growing discontent, President Bola Tinubu and governors elected on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform are currently holding a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting comes as a planned nationwide protest, scheduled for August 1-15, threatens to bring the country to a standstill. Organizers are protesting against economic hardship and harsh policies of the Tinubu administration.

The federal government is scrambling to stop the protests, with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation meeting with ministers to discuss ways to avert the protests.

The APC governors have distanced themselves from the protests, with the South-east Governors’ Forum stating that they are opposed to the protests due to the fragile political environment and potential hijack by criminal elements.

The government has appealed to the protesters to shelve the protests and engage in dialogue, with the Minister of Information and National Orientation stating that the government is committed to addressing the grievances of the protesters.
