Al-Hikmah Varsity To Begin M.B.B.S Programme From 2024/2025 Academic Session – Prof Yusuf

The Governing Council of the Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, has given approval for the commencement of Medicine (MBBS) programme as from 2024/2025 academic session,

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Noah Yusuf made this disclosure at his fourth anniversary as the substantive Vice Chancellor of the University in Ilorin on Friday.

Yusuf noted that arrangements are ongoing for the resource visitation by the National Universities Commission (NUC), preceding the full commencement of the Medicine programme.

The VC expressed the profound gratitude of the institution to the Executive Governor of Kwara State,, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, for the approval of Sobi Specialist Hospital, Ilorin, for the training of their Medical students.

Listing his administration’s achievements in last one year, Prof. Yusuf said the University on 5th of July emerged as the first private university in the state, presented by the State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA).

He said that the university’s enrolment of both undergraduate and postgraduate students have increased compared to what it used to be few years ago.

“In term of enrolment, postgraduate rose from less than 150 in 2021 to over 2,000 in 2024.

“The postgraduate school structure and management has equally experienced an improvement with added capacity to provide quality and effective service to the students.

“Enhancement of campus infrastructure, including the construction of new buildings and facilities, which include:
Senator Kashim Shetima Nursing Science Complex; Moot Court of the Faculty of Law; Faculty of Management Sciences and blocks of hostels completed at the Atere Campus of the University.”

Prof Yusuf said the University would ensure that all final year and first year students are accommodated within the institution’s campuses.

He explained that the institution was committed to collaboration and partnership during the period under review, saying the institution successfully established collaboration with other institutions. For instance, our engagement with the Consortium of Kwara State Universities (KU8) resulted in the choice of Al-Hikmah University to host the 2nd KU8 International Conference between 6th and 9th August, 2024.

“Further, the University is currently in discussion with the Nigeria Police that will lead into collaboration between the two institutions. Hopefully, the Centre for Peace and Security Studies of the University would be fully engaged in the training programmes at the Nigeria Police Intelligence Training College, Share, as soon it is commissioned.

The Vice-Chancellor said that the institution presently runs a total of 157 programmes across seven Faculties, excluding centres as follows: undergraduate 52, Post-graduate Diploma 13, Masters 36, M. phil/Ph.D and Ph.D with full accreditation of its programmes.

He said that the university’s International School has received the approval of West African Examination (WAEC) and (NECO) for its studen5s to write both senior and junior examinations.

Yusuf disclosed that the university in its robust staff development programme secured the approval of the Council for its academic and non-academic staff to proceed on sabbatical leave after meeting stipulated requirements.

He described as impressive the current massive Agriculture investment in the institution’s Faculty of Agriculture at Igbaja campu in Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The Professor of Sociology said that the institution embarked on plantation of plantain and potatoes, saying that
the university’s authority has expended over N40 million on Agricultural production in its Igbaja campus.

Yusuf expressed the institution’s decision and determination to solve the problem of rising cost of energy as a result of categorisation of the University as “Band A” which has resulted to an astronomical increase in electricity bills from N8 million to N29 million N25 million and N18 million in the past.

He said the institution management has embraced the idea of energy mix which will soon lead to the installation of Solar power gadgets aceoss its campuses.

He said the management of the University placed so much priorities on students and staff welfare and security and also on teaching, research and community services.
