Don Task Leaders On Organising Principle For Nigeria To Work Perfectly
Dr Abdulmumini Ajia of Lincoln University, Missouri, USA, has stressed the need for the country’s leadership to create organising principle for the country to work perfectly.
Ajia made the call on Wednesday during his 1st Annual Colloquium on Democracy and Good Governance held at Kwara NUJ Press Centre, Ilorin.
He said the country need to make a fundamental choice to change how things are been done.
According to him, Nigeria is one of the most blessed country in the world in terms of natural resources but we are not organized as a people.
” Nigeria is not poor because of lack of resources or because of over population. Nigeria is poor because we are not organized as a people.
” We need to have a vision on how we want to see ourselves, We need a vision of how Nigeria want to be.
” Leaders need to start thinking of a new way for this country and stop been selfish. Stop accumulating wealth to the detriment of the masses,” he said.
The Associate Professor of Business Administration urged the public to ask God to raise a generation of selfless leaders for the country.
He said the country need leaders that are kind and emphatic to the public course and not selfish leaders who only care for their pocket.
Ajia also called for the abolishment of federal system of government and need to delineate Nigeria into small constituencies.
According to him, the present arrangement doesn’t serve anyone except the people at the helm of the affairs.
” We need to to renegotiate power sharing formula to allow equity and fairness.
” We need to rethink Nigeria states to rescue the country from money bags and their friends,” he said.
The Guest Speaker, Dr Sanusi Lafiagi, Department of Islamic Studies, Al- Hikmah University, Ilorin, said people must first change their selves before they can change the society.
Lafiagi warned the public not to rely on prayers alone to work wonders without changing their mindset.
He added that God would not come down to change the society except the people take a step.
” Our problem has to be deliberately solved through our own actions. We can only experience change in our society if we invest our own effort,” he said .
He, however, tasked the youths to unite and create awareness on important of good leaders and good governance.
The Doctor also advocated the need for active political education, thereby calling on the youths to sensitize market women, famers and elites on what is best for the society.
He, however, stressed need for structured organization as a tool to make things work in the country.
On his path, Dr Hafees Sulyman of the Department of Early Childhood and Primary Education,Kwara State University,Malete, tasked Nigeria leaders to be responsible and prioritize masses welfare.
Sulyman, who described leadership as ability to sacrifice for the people, urged Nigeria leaders to always have the fear of God in whatever they do.
The theme of the programme: ‘Democracy and Good Governance’ witnessed massive turnout by Lecturers, Scholars and student’s across Kwara State.
