NAWOJ Urges Kogi Governor to Appoint More Female Journalists
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has called on Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, to appoint more female journalists to his cabinet.
This appeal was made during a visit by NAWOJ Chairperson, Comrade Stella Edoka, to the newly appointed Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of the Graphic Newspaper, Mr. Y.J. Itopa.
Edoka praised the dedication of female journalists in Kogi State and highlighted their significant contributions to various administrations.
She emphasized that women have consistently proven their effectiveness and reliability when given opportunities.
“We are excited by Governor Ododo’s commitment to exceeding the 35% affirmative action for women in governance.
NAWOJ is grateful for this significant step. We passionately appeal for the inclusion of female journalists in the present cabinet, and we would be deeply grateful if this appeal receives prompt attention,” Edoka stated.
Edoka also commended Governor Ododo’s achievements since taking office, noting the notable development across various sectors in Kogi State.
She pledged NAWOJ’s unwavering support for the current administration and urged the public to back the government’s efforts.
She also expressed her appreciation for Mr. Itopa’s appointment, emphasizing its significance for the media industry in Kogi State.
“Itopa’s appointment is a remarkable milestone not just for him but for the entire media community in Kogi State. His leadership is expected to bring positive changes and a more vibrant media landscape,” she said.
In response, Mr. Itopa reiterated his dedication to maintaining high journalistic standards and thanked Governor Ododo for the opportunity to lead Graphic Newspapers.
He also advocated for the inclusion of more journalists in the administration, highlighting their ability to promote the governor’s image effectively.
James Oyewole, the Executive Editor of Graphic Newspapers, praised Itopa’s extensive experience and vision for the publication’s future.
He expressed confidence in Itopa’s leadership and its potential to elevate the newspaper to new heights.
The visit by NAWOJ to Mr. Itopa underscored the unity and mutual support within the journalism community in Kogi State, highlighting their collective commitment to advancing the profession and promoting high standards of journalism in Nigeria.
In a related development, NAWOJ’s Chairperson led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo. During the visit, Edoka called for more collaboration and support from the state government to enhance the association’s functions.
Commissioner Fanwo emphasized the crucial role of journalists in the state’s development and urged them to be proactive in propagating government activities and programs.
He pledged the ministry’s total support and collaboration with NAWOJ for the growth of the association and the betterment of journalism in the state.
