Nigerian Government Clears Air on Issue of Multiple Budgets
The Federal Government has dismissed claims of operating four budgets in a year, describing the allegations as misinformation.
In a statement, President Tinubu’s media aide, Temitope Ajayi, responded to tweets by Peter Obi, former Anambra Governor, who claimed the government was running multiple budgets concurrently.
Ajayi clarified that the National Assembly approved the extension of the 2023 budget and supplementary budget implementation to December 2024, to achieve its objectives.
He emphasized the importance of capital expenditures in driving economic growth, strengthening private sector output, and creating employment opportunities.
Ajayi also cautioned against spreading false information, urging civic organizations like Budgit to be responsible in their reporting. He accused Peter Obi of perpetuating misinformation, saying “Our country can’t achieve sustainable development with false claims and misinformation.”
The Federal Government’s clarification aims to set the record straight and dispel rumors about its budget management.
