Earthquake hits Iran amid mourning over President Raisi’s death
Late Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi
A small earthquake, measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale, hit Malayer in western Iran’s Hamedan province on Monday. This came after the tragic death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash on Sunday.
The earthquake, reported by the Seismological Centre of the Geophysics Institute of the University of Tehran, happened at 08:20:52 local time and was 10 kilometres deep.
It was centred 9 kilometres from Samen, 18 kilometres from Malayer, and 18 kilometres from Oshtorinan. So far, there have been no reports of damage or injuries.
The earthquake occurred shortly after President Raisi’s death in a helicopter crash, which has deeply saddened the country. Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, declared five days of national mourning to honour the late president and others who died in the crash. (Nigerian Tribune)
