Provide Meters for Nigerians Before Tariff Increment – APC Chieftain Tells IBEDC, Others

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ambassador Abayomi  Mumuni has enjoined the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) and other electricity distribution companies to provide meters for Nigerians before they embark on tariff increment.

Mumuni noted that increment of tariff on services not rendered by distribution companies will be another way to defraud Nigerians.

Mumuni, who was the gubernatorial candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) in Lagos state in 2011, made the declaration via a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday, April 9.

It was gathered that electricity distribution companies across the country have increased their tariff.

But the APC chieftain while speaking, noted that the government should ensure that the distribution companies provide meters to their customers before the increment of tariff.

Mumuni in the statement signed by his media aide, Rasheed Abubakar, added that increment of tariff without functional meters may result in big crisis considering the situation of poverty hitting deeper on the citizens.

“Let me add my voice to the recent increment of tariff by electricity distribution companies.

“Government should ensure metering to every nook and cranny of Nigeria before embarking on escalating the tariffs. We should be more sensible when it comes to activation on certain aspect, especially when it has to do with ourselves as a citizen.

“Increasing tariff on the services not rendered with malfunctioning meters that reflect fraud will add to the problems face by Nigerians.

“We should be more sincere with ourselves in Nigeria, we have read commentaries, we have had from some of the failed Ministers that claimed to fix the power supply of our country under few months. It is lie upon lies, they failed woefully, especially Buhari’s Ministers who are a bunch of failures.

“I could not remember the number of times 3rd Mainland bridge was shut down during Buhari’s 8 years in government but nothing to show for it on the acclaimed repairs.

“Look at what the present minister under President Bola Tinubu has put together without cut and nail job of Buhari’s ministers.

“The government should consider the metering distribution first before going into tariff increment, this will be more sensible.

“Otherwise, it may result into big crisis considering the situation of poverty hitting deeper on the citizens.”
