Kwara Upholds Law Banning Charcoal Production
Kwara State Government has reaffirmed the ban on production of charcoal in the state, adding that the law is intact.
The State Commissioner for Environment, Mallam Shehu Ndanusa Usman revealed this during the week, a press session, in his office.
According to him, “the law banning the production of charcoal in Kwara State is still intact. Whoever is caught violating the law will be sanctioned accordingly.”
The Commissioner therefore warned charcoal producers to stop illegal felling of trees and support government in its efforts to eradicate deforestation, to avoid destruction of the climate.
Mallam Ndanusa also revealed that the taskforce on charcoal will continue to move round the state to ascertain the level of compliance and impound vehicles transporting charcoal out of the state
He, however, implored the taskforce and law enforcement agents not to arrest small cars such as buses and taxi transporting within the state for domestic use and also not to indulge violators in whatever guise, but should rather confiscate their goods and lorries, with the aim of reporting such culprits to the Ministry appropriately, for necessary actions.
Mallam Ndanusa also enjoined the public to join hands with the present administration in the state, in its efforts at eradicating deforestation and promoting clean and healthy environment in the state.
