An Islamic Organization, Ihsan Zakkat and Waqaf Foundation on Thursday, distributed 300 bags of rice to vulnerable women in Bauchi Local Government Council worth N7 million.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, an official of the organization, Mr Hamza Hussain, said that the gesture was geared towards performing one of the five pillars of Islam.

According to him the donation was in collaboration with 19 women organizations in the state, adding that the foundation planned to embark on mass plantation of economic trees.

“The foundation is giving these items for the first time. However, it is our plan to continue to improve the lives of women in the state.

“In addition, economic trees will also be planted to improve the lives of women as they will produce fruits that will also benefit the society in the near future.

“We are soliciting for donations in terms of the tree planting and other activities to uplift the lives of the vulnerable people,” he said.

In his speech, Dr Usman Giade, member of Ihsan and Waqaf Foundation Advisory Committee, said the need to feed the poor could not be overemphasized especially during the month of Ramadan.

“Fasting is in regard to abstaining from food and drink; this alone will make each one of us taste hunger which is almost the daily life of the poor.

“It is a significant act amongst Muslims to support one another especially with regard to feeding.

“We have also received donations of lands worth 10 hectares in Bauchi, Misau and Azare local government councils to plant the economic trees” he said.

In his goodwill message, Alhaji Yakubu Marafa, former Grand Khadi, Bauchi state, acknowledged the contribution of Muslim women in cushioning the effect of hardship among women.

In her vote of Thanks, Hajiya Halima Abdullahi, also an official of the foundation, appreciated the support of the religious and community leaders in supporting women activities in the state

She said that Muslim women organisations in the state had collectively contributed and supported government activities through education, health, Zakkat and endowment, humanitarian and other interventions for peace building and economic development.

Mrs Faiza Muhammed, one of the beneficiaries who spoke on behalf of others, applauded the foundation for the gesture and prayed for the success of the foundation.
