Women engaging in transportation far better than prostitution – RTEAN boss.

The Chairman,Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Kwara branch, Alhaji Abdulrahman Olayinka Onikijipa, says women engaging in transportation is far better than prostitution.

Onikijipa, who disclosed this in Ilorin on Friday in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) , said transportation business is more honourable for women than prostitution.

According to him, most women see transportation business as men’s job and prefers to be wayward than engaging in it.

” Transportation is not strictly for men as thought by some women. It is for both gender.

” Women engaging in transportation business is far better than prostitution. Stop seeing transportation as men’s work.

” We have many women now here in Kwara driving taxi, tricycle and okada to earn a living. That is a big kudos to them.

” We also have many women here as executives. They are path of the decision making. We don’t discriminate in our association,” he said .

The chairman also advised women to stop being idle or sell their body for living, but to engage in a llegitimate business.

Onikijipa also advised the passengers to be vigilant and stop boarding any available car to their destination.

He said most transporters are fake and not legally registered with transport union in the state.

” Be vigilant and go to the park to board a vehicle. Everyone should be conscious of security situation in the country inorder not to fall a victim of kidnappers.

” They will take your details in the park; names, phone numbers and next of kin incase of eventuality unlike all the road side cars,” he said.

He, however, warned those unregistered and illegal drivers, who formed the habit of carrying ppassengers indiscriminately to desist from the act.

He said whoever is caught will be dealth with according to the association constitution.

The chairman also disclosed that RTEAN always conducted medical test and sensitization for his members every fortnight in Kwara.

Onikijipa said the medical test is to keep the drivers fit and check their mental status before handling wheel.

” We don’t take risk . We always conduct test for our drivers every fortnight to access their mental well-being.

” We partner with Kwara Ministry of Health and some NGO’s to do the needful medically for our members,” he said. (NAN)
