Kwara Polytechnic Seeks Govt.’s Intervention on Encroachment of Its Land

Kwara state Polytechnic Ilorin has appealed to the state government to urgently intervene on the encroachment of its land by Intruders to prevent crisis with the community.

The Director, Students Services of the Institution, Surveyor , Abubakar Aremu made the appeal while speaking with journalists in Ilorin.

He said the extent of encroachment on the Institution land is threatening the corporate existence of polytechnic.

Aremu explained that the Institution requires land for development and construction of other infrastructure for the use of Students.

He noted that the Polytechnic was established in 1973 on about five thousand four hundred hecters of land .

Aremu said during the recent validation of the land by the authority it was discovered that only four of thousand five hundred hecters is available .

He said it is now difficult for the Institution to secure accreditation for the Agricultural engineering department as there is no land to create farm for the Students.

Aremu maintained that the state government had duely compensated about one hundred and twenty two land owners before establishing the Institution.

He urged the state government to construct perimeter fencing to reclaim the land.
