Kwara State Fire Service Averts Fire At Filling Station, Ilorin
The Kwara State Fire Service on Thursday responded swiftly to avert fire at Fortunate Integrated Nigeria Limited filling station, located opposite GSS on Old Jebba Road, Ilorin.
This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Hassan Adekunle, Head of Department, Media and Publicity, Kwara State Fire Service, Ilorin and made available to newsmen.
The incident involved a 45,000 liters petrol tanker with Registration Number PTG 534 XA, attempting to transfer PMS into the station’s reservoir.
The fire crew promptly arrived and efficiently tackled the blaze, stemming from a spill of petrol on the overheated parts of the tanker during the siphoning process.
Within 10 minutes, the gallant firefighters successfully brought the inferno under control and extinguished it.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the tanker, having traveled a considerable distance, became excessively hot, leading to the ignition of spilled petrol during the transfer to the filling station’s underground reservoir.
Present at the scene was Hon. AbdulRazaq Jiddah, Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Government of Kwara State, who commended the firefighters for their heroic efforts and rapid response in preventing further damage to the filling station and nearby structures.
Therefore, the Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa urged general public to always play safe especially during this period and not to hesitate to call fire brigade on time whenever there is any fire emergency in their areas, as this would save lives and properties of people in the state..
