COVID-19:Nigeria vaccinates 8,000 in 35 states

The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 says 8,000 people have been vaccinated so far in 35 states and the FCT.

Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) Dr Faisal Shuaib, stated this at the PTF Briefing in Abuja.

He, however, disclosed that Kogi State was yet to receive vaccines because its cold chains for preservation of the vaccines were under repair.

Shuaib also dismissed the rumour and concerns about the Oxford-AstraZeneca Vaccines used in Nigeria, stating that the vaccine was still effective and there were no evidence of the vaccine causing blood clot.

Speaking on the price of the vaccine, he said the vaccine was cheaper that others in the market because the producers decided to sell at production cost rather than seek profits.

He advised against using the price of the vaccine as a yardstick to reject it, but urged to concentrate on its efficacy as countries like the UK and many others still used it.

On the concerns raised about the registration process, the NPHCDA boss said anyone who was qualified and could not register, should head to the vaccination centre, where he or she would be registered manually.
