APC Chairman Arrested for Allegedly Raping, Impregnating Housegirl in Jigawa

 

 

The 56-year-old chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Roni Local Government Area, Saleh Idris, has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on allegations of raping his housegirl.

 

The spokesperson of the NSCDC Jigawa State Command, CSC Adamu Shehu, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued to NewsNow.

 

According to CSC Adamu, the arrest took place on Wednesday following a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother. The complaint stated that the suspect raped and impregnated his 14-year-old sister, who worked as a house help at the suspect’s residence

 

The victim’s brother reported, “The case was reported at NSCDC Roni LGA Division after a failed agreement reached at the Hisba office on taking responsibility. Instead, he was pressuring the family to abort the pregnancy.”

 

He further explained, “The victim’s first encounter with the suspect was when he offered her a drink when his wife was not at home, which made her lose consciousness, and he took advantage of her.”

 

“When the victim regained consciousness, he threatened her not to tell anyone or risk losing her monthly allowances. As a result, the abuse continued repeatedly until the pregnancy surfaced,” added the victim’s brother.

 

Upon interrogation, the suspect denied the allegations, and the case has been taken to court, according to CSC Adamu.

 

He noted that the case is in violation of Section 3 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act in Jigawa State and is punishable under the same Act.
