National Assembly Conducts Quiz Competition For Bauchi Schools

The National Assembly on Thursday, conducted a quiz competition for six secondary schools in Bauchi state.
The competition was carried out under the National Quiz Competition on Legislature and Democracy (NILDS) of the National Assembly.
Speaking during the competition in Bauchi, the Director General, NILDS, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, said that the competition is the eighth’s edition which is taking place across the 30 participating states.
Represented by Engr. Simon Wakawa, Bauchi state Coordinator, NILDS, the DG explained that the purpose of the competition was to provide continued education in the legislature and broaden the knowledge of students.
According to him, it was also to widen the knowledge of the Nigerian youth on the history, practice and procedure of the legislature and encourage deeper understanding of civic and democratic governance.
“The competition will also stimulate the interest of the young students in politics and make them more proactive in matters relating to the legislature and democracy.
“The first edition of the competition was held in 2016 with participating schools drawn strictly within the Federal Capital Territory.
“It continued to be an annual event in that format until the Institute’s Governing Council headed by the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives directed it to be expanded across the country.
“This was successfully done in the year 2022 in collaboration with all the states of the Federation but with only 30 States participating and this is the 8th edition of the competition which is the second time it’s being held at the national level,” he said.
Also speaking, the Bauchi state Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Jemila Dahiru, said education is not only acquired in the classroom but through other curricular activities such as debates, quiz competition, sports, among others.
Represented by Mr Shehu Abdulsalam, Director, School Service, Ministry of Education, the commissioner urged the participants to follow all rules and regulations of the competition.
The participating schools included; Government Day Secondary School, Matsango in Azare, headquarters of Katagum LGA, Government Day Secondary School, Toro, Misau Model School.
Others included; Sa’adu Zungur Secondary School, Bauchi, Sunshine International School, and Immaculate Conception School, Bauchi.
However, the overall winner of the competition is Za’adu Zungur Secondary School, while Government Day Secondary School, Matsango took the second position and Government Secondary School, Toro, emerged the second runner-up.
