FRSC Boss Bans Impoundment of Vehicles,  Tricycles,  Motorcycles

FRSC Corps Marshall Dauda Biu has banned impoundment of vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles that commit traffic infractions throughout the country.

This is contained in a statement by Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Jonas Agwu on Tuesday and made available to our correspondent.

Agwu, who is Commanding Administration and Strategy at FRSC headquarters, said the decision to ban the impoundment of vehicles came at the Q3 Strategic Session Corps Marshall had with Commanding Officers.

He said the Corps Marshal specifically directed Commanding Officers to address staff within their purview on immediate ban on vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles for traffic infractions committed.

“Recent events suggest that almost two weeks after the Corps Marshal’s Strategic Session; the directive has not been implemented.

“This deviance is partly responsible for the tragic event of 12 September 2023 that occurred at about 0915HRS where Road Marshal Assistant I  (RMAI)   Hamidu Idris of RS1.16B Dutse Outpost was pushed out of an arrested vehicle while on their way to the command’s base for impoundment.

“Unfortunately, Hamidu’s head was broken in the process and he died instantly.

“The avoidable incident could have been averted if compliance to Corps Marshal’s order and directives were strictly complied with by all commanding officers and reports of compliance forwarded accordingly.

“Consequently, Corps Marshal has banned impoundment by patrol teams under any guise effective from Tuesday 12 September 2023,” he said.

Agwu, therefore,  directed Commanding Officers to bring the directive banning the impoundment of vehicles to the notice of all staff within their purview, and also ensure compliance with the directive.
