Osun State Disability Protection Bill Scales Second Reading

The Osun State Disability Protection Bill 2023 has scaled through a second reading at today’s plenary of the Osun State House of Assembly.

The Majority Leader of the House of Assembly Hon. Kofoworola Babajide during the presentation of its Policy Thrust at today’s plenary, noted that the bill if passed into law would prohibit discrimination in the society.

He added that the bill was an Act of Parliament which has been in existence at the National Assembly.

He observed that the bill would put smiles on people with disabilities faces if passed into law.

He confirmed that the bill would give people with disabilities access to public engagements.

He said that people with disabilities must enjoy certain privileges in the society.
According to him, “People with a disability must enjoy certain privileges in the state”.

“They must have access to public engagement” he added.

He said the passage of the bill was long overdue.

He said that the person with disabilities must be taken good care of in the state.

The Speaker, Hon . Egbedun then directed the Chairman of House of Assembly Committee on Youth Development to liaise with Clerk of the House to work extensively on the mentioned bill.

In similar development, the Osun State House of Assembly Service Commission Establishment Amendment No 3 bill, Osun State Skating (Restriction) bill 2023, Osun State High Court Registrars, Customary Court of Appeal Registrars, Osun State Magistrates and District and Customary Court President Retirement Age bill 2023 were read for the first time at today plenary of House of Assembly.

Also, under the Matters of Urgent attention the Chief Whip of the House Hon. Olawale representing llesa- West brought to the notice of the lawmakers the urgent need to have fire fighter at the premises of Osun State House of Assembly to curb fire outbreak and accident.

Meanwhile, the Speaker Hon. Egbedun used the opportunity to introduced Hon. Ropo Oyewole, who was Special Adviser to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Legislative Matters to the entire House of Assembly members.
