Subsidy: Kwara Residents Decry Transportation Fare Hike
Residents of Kwara state have expressed displeasure and hardship over transportation fare hike given the upward review in the pump price of petroleum nationwide by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, on Wednesday
Speaking with our Correspondent in Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital, the residents lamented that the new pump price of petrol would contribute to already harsh economic lives being experienced by the people.
They decried the hike in transportation fares per drop added that many filling stations belonging to independent marketers in the Ilorin metropolis had begun to sell fuel at between N500 and N700 per litre before the NNPCL announcement on Wednesday.
Some traders also said that increase in prices may not be immediate but gradual, added that development in the next few days would determine percentage of increase that each item would attract.
It was also gathered that queues had gone in most filling stations that have fuel due to hike in the price of the product.
However, queues were still noticed in some filling stations that sell at moderate prices lower than that of others.
Choicereporters recalled that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) on Wednesday approved an upward review in the pump price of petroleum nationwide. This comes days after the government declared that it will put an end to fuel subsidy regime
NNPCL in a statement by its Chief Corporate Communications officer, Garba Deen Muhammad, said it had adjusted the pump prices of PMS across its retail outlets in line with current market realities.
