Court summons Kwara Traditional Ruler Over Alleged Threat To Life
The Ilorin Upper Area Court 1, on Wednesday, re-issued an order of summon against the traditional ruler of Alarandun of Arandun, Oba Ibikunle Olapade Adekanye, who allegedly threatened the life of one Alhaji Ibrahim Gbenga Ibuoye.
The complainant, Ibuoye, who dragged the traditional ruler to court, also accused him of illegal demolition of ancient palace arch and its subsequent replacement with a new name that has no historical significance in an effort to erase his father’s name, Oba Ibuoye, the first community monarch, from History.
Meanwhile, during the proceedings, counsel to Ibuoye, Barrister Olumide Oniyire, frowned at how the defendant (Oba Adekanye) has disobeyed court order of summons severally on an unsubstantiated ground of sickness of high blood pressure.
Oniyire submitted further that the defendant counsel, Barrister Olasehinde Adeseko deployed a tactics of writing petition to the Chief Justice, against the court seeking a transfer of the case to another court, citing allegations of biases against the authority of the court of law.
He submitted that before the court could concede to transferring the case, allegation of biases must be proven by defendant’s counsel, Chief Judge’s reaction about the petition must be known urging the court not to get intimidated.
Adeseko, on his part, moved the court to discountenance the submission of Barrister Olumide, claiming he cannot be counsel for the court to determine what its should do, saying that verdict should be left in the hand of the court and the Chief Judge.
In his ruling, Justice Mustapha who presided over the panel, said despite the unsubstantiated reasons given for malice, he is transferring the case to Upper Area Court, Oloje, Ilorin, Kwara State.
