Why I rejected request to visit Tinubu – Bode George

Chief Olabode George, a former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, has stated that he did meet with a few representatives of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The head of the Governance Advisory Council in Lagos State, Tajudeen Olusi, was among the members of the APC delegation, which was led by Retired Justice Isola Olorunmibe.

George, a fervent opponent of President-elect Bola Tinubu, claimed that he was unable to refuse their request for a meeting since he respected Olorunmibe.

They were headed by Papa Olorunmibe, a 94-year-old guy, he said to our correspondent. Such a man cannot request to come to my house in Yoruba territory and expect me to turn him down. In my culture, that is not accepted. There were more senior members of the PDP.

The PDP leader explained that the group had come to apologize to him for earlier disagreements and to ask for his support for the incoming president.

However, George claimed he declined Tinubu’s invitation for a visit because his party was currently contesting the results of the presidential election on February 18 in court.

First of all, they came to apologize for whatever they had done in the past, he said, and I responded that I had moved on and had nothing against his person. Policy disagreements are Okay, but we must avoid being combative.

“They also requested that I call him as a courtesy. What are you talking about, I asked. I am a life member of the BoT and the man who represents the South-West inside the boundaries of our party nationally.

“How can I combine those two, then? How do I now declare that I want to go welcome him even though we are still in court? Why should I greet him? What will my supporters and party think of me? When we leave the court, that’s when we’ll find out. The PDP members and I present were very clear in our mind that going to him now will be a bit suicidal. I’m still an irridentist PDP man,” he said. (News Crescent)
