Kwara Govt Adopts Use of Technology, Innovation To Boost Businesses, Support Youths

The Kwara Government have adopted use of technology and innovation to boost businesses and support youths in the country.

The Managing Director, Ilorin Innovation Hub, Mr Temi Kolawole, disclosed this in Ilorin at the Ecosystem Engagement on the adoption of the Nigeria Startup Act (NSA) in the state.

Kolawole said the plan was to move more people from the informal sector to formal sector via tecchnolgy to run their businesses.

“We have a very well structured business environment in Kwara. With the introduction of Startup Act, there is hope for Kwara youths.

“We wanted to bring in innovation and technology to ease of doing businesses and make life better for Kwara citizens,” he said.

The managing director disclosed that there is over 100,000 self employed youths across the state who could be upgraded.

He said it would take six months to implement the Startup Act and capture young businessmen in the state.

“Through capacity building and training, we will surely get there and make Kwara a business hub,” he said.

The state Adoption Lead for NSA, Mrs Tracy Okoro-Isaac, recalled that the Act was signed into law in 2022 by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Okoro-Isaac said the Startup Act was signed to create enabling enviroment for tech enable companies to thrive in the country.

She said that one of the challenges young people have with startups was little or no access to funding.

“We want Nigeria to be at forefront as technology producers, solving technology problems.

“We have more than enough talents in the country. We need to wake them and show them how to have a quality life via technology,” she said.

She described Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as innovation driving governor who always key into digital economy and prosperity.

Okoro-Issac assured Kwara citizens of a prosperious businesses and better life with adoption of the friendly Nigeria Starup Act.

Thestate Commisioner for Business Innovation and Technology, Mr Ibrahim Akaje, who was represented by Mr Ibrahim Saleh, described the Startup Act as pivotal to economic activities.

He said eight out of 36 states have shown interest in the NSA.

The Execuitive Chairman, Kwara Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), Mrs Shade Omoniyi, commended the Startup initiative, noting that it will bring more development to the state.

A participant, Mr Olaide Olawuwo, who spoke with newsmen said that the initiative was a welcomed development.

“I believe if the state government adopts the Act, it will help to galvanise resources in the state,” he said.
