Gov AbdulRazaq Forward Seven Nominees of KWSIEC To Assembly For Screening, Confirmation

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara has forwarded nominees for screening and confirmation as Chairman and Members of Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission, KWSIEC.

This is contained in a Message from the Governor addressed to Speaker, Rt. Hon. Engineer Yakubu Salihu and read before his colleagues during today’s plenary

The nominees are Okanla Baba from Ilorin West as Chairman, while Fredrick Sabi Abel (Baruten), Engineer Hassan Taiye Salam (Oyun), Gbedeyan Gbadura Yomi (Ekiti) Ndama Al-Hassan (Edu), Saka Baliqees Kehinde (Ilorin South), Engineer Abdullahi Jenat Hamdat Ilorin East would serve as members of the Commission

Governor Abdulrazaq said their nomination is in accordance with section One Nine Two subsection One to Five of the Constitution having qualified with necessary skills and experience to carry out the duties of their respective positions.

The Speaker therefore directed the nominees to appear before the House for screening tomorrow at Ten O’clock in the morning and charged them to submit Thirty-five copies of their Credentials to office of the Clerk before close of work today.

Kwara State House of Assembly has granted Legislative Approval for deduction of Five Percent Consultancy Fee to AJAB Financial Services Limited from Kwara Entitlements from Stamp Duties Refunds.

This followed a Message from the Governor requesting House endorsement for deduction of Consultancy Fee from Recovery and Refund of Backlog of Stamp Duties owed to Kwara State Government in a thorough debate led by Deputy House Leader, Mr John Bello during today’s sitting.

Governor AbdulRazaq, in letter, intimated the House that Nigerian Governors Forum recently resolved to settle out of court in a Stamp Duties suit instituted by the Thirty-Six States against the Federal Government

He pointed out that the out of court settlement would result to availability of more funds to be deployed by the State Government for development interventions.

Meanwhile, Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly,Engineer Yakubu Salihu has charged journalists to continue to ensure professionalism in their reportage.

Engr Salihu representing Ilesha-Gwanara Constituency, gave the charge on Wednesday while receiving a Souvenir presented to him by the State House Assembly Press Corps to congratulate him on his re-election in the just concluded General Elections in the State.

Salihu described media a strategic for political stability and an interface between the government and the people and applauded the State House of Assembly Correspondents for positively projecting the image of the State Legislature.

The Speaker assured the citizens of the state of quality Legislations towards improving their welfare and pledged to improve on observed grey areas in the Tenth Assembly when Inaugurated.

Also Speaking, Deputy Speaker, Hon. Raphael Adetiba chronicled the journey so far of the Ninth Assembly and praised the Assembly Press Corp for their undiluted dissemination of Information of the Legislature.

In his reaction, Vice Chairman, House Committee on Information, Youth Culture and Tourism, Hon. Felix Awodiji noted that the success of the Ninth Assembly would be incomplete without decent reportage of its Press Corp and saluted the House Correspondents for their dedication to work

Earlier, Chairman, Kwara State House of Press Corps, Mr Abdulrazaq Bello of Radio Nigeria Harmony FM, Idofian applauded the Speaker for not disappointing the youth Constituency as a successful young politician.

Mr Bello explained that the token Souvenir from House of Assembly Press Corp was to congratulate and appreciate the Speaker for his re-election and fruitful piloting the affairs of the House.

In his submission, State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Kwara Council, Comrade Abdul-lateef Ahmed eulogized the House for ensuring harmonious working relationship between Legislature and Executive in the State.
