INEC Announces Date For Supplementary Elections In Adamawa, Kebbi, Others

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced that supplementary elections will hold in relevant states on 15 April.

Although governorship and legislative elections have been concluded in most parts of Nigeria, the elections were declared inconclusive in some states and legislative districts.

INEC, therefore, said it would announce a new date for the election.

“Arising from its meeting held today, the Independent National Electoral Commission has decided that all outstanding Governorship, National and State Assembly supplementary elections will take place on Saturday 15th April 2023,” INEC wrote on its Twitter page Monday afternoon.

In Kebbi and Adamawa, the 18 March governorship elections were declared inconclusive by INEC and supplementary elections will hold in some polling units in both states.

In Sokoto State, all the National Assembly seats in the state were declared inconclusive after the 25 February elections.

Other states where supplementary National Assembly elections will be held are Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Edo, Imo, Jigawa, Kano and Kebbi States.

Others are Kogi, Oyo, Rivers, Taraba, Zamfara, Plateau, and Yobe States.

Elections are usually declared inconclusive when the total number of cancelled votes is more than the vote margin between the winner and the runner-up.
