2023: PDP Rep. Candidate Says Election Process Not As presented By INEC
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives candidate for Asa/Ilorin West federal constituency, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Ajia on Saturday said the election process was contrary to the way it was presented by INEC ahead of the 2023 general Election.
Ajia, stated this while addressing newsmen and giving his views on the election process after casting his ballot at his polling unit.
“I have voted, the election process is not as presented by INEC, a lot of things didn’t go the way we expected for instance where I voted, Magajin Geri polling unit 005. BIVAS was not working smoothly.
“There was delay of the arrival of materials, as it arrived at about 11am as against 8:30 am. a lot of complaints across the board.
“We tried to find out from the security agencies and I was made to realise that the logistics arrangement by INEC was not there and as a result of this some of the APC are using their own vehicle to transport sensitive materials and INEC officials from the rack centre to polling units”
The Reps candidate said, “in Alausa, INEC official arrived and the number for ballot papers for presidential election and Senate were about 800 but the ones for house of reps were just 10.
“We raised the alarm and voting could not start. The same thing in Baboko, it was a delibrate attempt and it was coordinated efforts on the candidacy of the house of representatives because in most of the places where there were problems you see that the presidential ballot paper in surplus to that of house of reps and again it’s very funny to say that the polling unit where I’m voting is where the BIVAS malfunctioned as many people are yet to vote now.”
He however, commended the security agencies, saying “they have been working and ensuring things get done normally even we were reporting INEC misconducts to them
He said the commissioner of police on several occasions called on the REC to lay complaints but some of the defence he gave is not something you can tender anywhere none of us is a novice,
“We expected a level playing field, thank God we have good people. People of Ilorin and Asa stood firm and ensured that they voted and on several occasions they have resisted vote buying, as a lot of people were promising to transfer money to them
“They resisted this at most of the polling units democracy has come to stay in Nigeria. I never doubted INEC conducting election especially using BIVAS for me BIVAS is a game changer but the technicalities.
“You know politicians always look at technicalities for every system and for us we believe is about the people that is not we are not worry about those that attempt to corrupt INEC officials either to tamper with the BIVAS or to delay the supply of materials or reduce supply of materials of some candidates all this is nothing that will help anybody.
For instance in Ajagusi in Asa local government up till now they have not voted. The APC thugs are taking over the community and say there won’t be vote so now we are mobilizing the security you can see the army we just raised the alarm and they are moving there now, today our confidence is the security agencies and I have the our people in Ilorin west that the security is there to protect and today they have seen it.
“Everywhere we call them they respond. The security are our heroes in this election we commend them and encourage them to sustain the momentum and be fair umpire that they have maintained.
“I must commend the leadership of IGP and all the security officials that have contributed to the election they tried their best no one in the opposition party that will say the security agencies were against them but rather it was the rulling APC in Kwara that was instigating problems that is a protest that I’m not supposed to vote in my polling unit I have never heard that before these are levels of uncordinated low -level strategy by APC.
” I pray that the people’s vote will count the choice of the people be demonstrated at the poll by the Grace of God, we will have a good Kwara and a Kwara for all.
“I only pray that God almighty will see us through so that this election People’s vote will count and the opinion of the people will be reflected at the poll,” he said.
