Al-Hikmah University Graduates 1,280 Students, Awards 3 Honori Causa Degrees


The Vice Chancellor, Al-Hikmah University, Prof Noah Yusuf,

Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, on Saturday graduated a total of 1,280 students with 25 bagging first class honours.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Noah Yusuf, made this disclosure at the 12th convocation ceremony of the institution held at the institution’s auditorium, Ilorin.

Three eminent Nigerians were also decorated and awarded Honoris Causa degrees of the institutions as follows: Mr Fola Adeola, FCA, mni, will bag Doctor of Business Administration; Mrs Mosun Belo-Olusoga will bag Doctor of Accounting; and Mrs Foluke K. AbdulRazaq, Doctor of Finance.

The Vice Chancellor urged the graduating students to embrace the current reality with the fact that it demands toughness, ruggedness and perseverance from youths to prevail and attain success.

He said unlike in some years back when both the public and private sectors were in search of products of our educational institutions, both sectors are “saturated” and could absorb only the very best few graduates.

“Today’s graduates have vast opportunities to explore in the digital space which can earn them as much as they can explore! You can even secure international jobs and get paid in foreign currency while you are still based in Nigeria

” While many of our youths are entrapped by the current misplacement of values and decadence in the society with such anti-social acts as drug abuse, cultist, yahoo yahoo, among others, those who are “immuned” from these viruses are the sure accomplishers, the champions and our future leaders,” he said.

Prof Yusuf urged the graduands to aspire to be future leaders and employers of labours with the skills and morals acquired from the University.

The VC implored the students to regard their graduation as the conclusion of a phase in life and the beginning of another phase in the journey of life.

Yusuf advised them to make the best use of the trainings skills and morals impacted on them to fashion a successful life.

In her speech, the Pro-chancellor, Alhaja Sekinat Yusuf lauded the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board’s Approval of the University Computer-based Tests (CBT) Centre for the conduct of Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and other related examinations.

She stressed the need for all stakeholders as well as government at all levels to go back to the drawing board to proffer lasting solution to the current sorry state of affairs in tertiary education in Nigeria.

She decried the sordid state of education, which include low quality of graduates, under-funding, disruption of academic calender due majority to strikes by Labour unions in public-owned tertiary institutions.

Also, the Chancellor, Alhaji Sayyu Dantata, said the institution has witnessed fast growth with 70 students in three Faculties in 2005, to over 5,000 students now in seven Faculties.

He said the university also intends to get involved in commercial farming, using its hundreds of hectares of vast land at its Faculty of Agriculture, Igbaja campus.

He disclosed that consultations are ongoing with Malaysian experts on development of Hybrid Pineapple (MD2) Variety.

The Chancellor urged friends of the University as well as parents and alumni to key into the University’s plan for the Establishment of an Endowment Fund.
