By Taiwo Ogunniyi
Kwara state Government has hailed the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, African Development Bank (AFDB), Geomatics Nigeria Limited and other stakeholders following the success of the Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene Investment Plan in the state.
Acting General Manager, Kwara state Rural Water Supply And Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) Buhari Danjuma said this in Ilorin, the state capital, during a validation workshop on the establishment of a
comprehensive rural water supply and sanitation investment plan in
Nigeria (Zone B).
Zone B comprises Ekiti, Osun, Kwara, Kogi, Lagos and Ogun states.
Mr Danjuma added that the state government had shown its commitment by
accommodating and adopting the great developmental idea and also providing enabling environment for the success of this programme.
“I really want to appeal to all the key players in this workshop to show full commitment and cooperation so that the validation workshop for Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Investment Plan in the state can
yield good result,” RUWASA chief said.
One of the resource persons from Geomatic Nigeria Limited, Dr Ige Oluwagbemiga advised the state state government to liaise with investors, donor agencies, international organizations in the
provision of washing facilities, water, hygiene and sanitation facilities for the rural areas.
Dr Oluwagbemiga said that: “My advice is for the state government to encourage investors in coming to the aid of these rural dwellers, their socio-economic well being is so important and must be catered for.
“By the time there is outbreak of diseases in our rural areas definitely it will come to the cities because people migrate from rural areas to the cities before you know it the whole of the city will be affected as well.
“If proper and adequate measures are taken at the rural areas level, then we are going to have a very good environment to work with, so my recommendation is for the state government to work assiduously with
this document to invite investors, donor agencies, international organizations to come to the aid of Kwara state in providing washing facilities, water, hygiene and sanitation facilities for the rural
areas.”
Aligning with his colleague, Dr Akintunde Alo said “our message to the government is to look critically to the document provided they should look on how to generate or source for fund because everything is about funding to be able to provide facilities for the basic need of the rural dwellers or for them to safely manage the facilities.”
