PDP Asks Court To Disqualify Kwara Gov, APC, Alleges Certificate Forgery, APC Reacts

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dragged Govenor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State to the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The party wants the Kwara helmsman disqualified from the 2023 governorship election over alleged certificate forgery.

Its originating summons filed before Justice Inyang Ekwo also prayed for an order disqualifying the All Progressives Congress (APC) from fielding a candidate.

The PDP, in suit FHC/ABJ/CS/1324/2022 filed by its lawyer, Paul Erokoro, SAN, urged the court to make an order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to delist Abdulrazaq.

INEC, Abdulrazaq and the APC are 1st to 3rd respondents respectively, NAN reports.

The suit insists Abdulrazaq’s affidavit in support of his personal particulars (Form EC9) and the accompanying documents published by the INEC contained false information.

It prayed the court to declare that the West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate attached to the affidavit bears ‘RAZAQ A. R.’ and does not belong to the governor.

The PDP wants the court to declare that the certificate submitted by Abdulrazaq and presented by the All Progressives Congress (APC) was forged.

Justice Ekwo adjourned the matter, mentioned on Thursday, to October 5 for hearing.

WAEC authenticates Kwara Governor’s result
Meanwhile, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially confirmed that Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq sat its secondary school leaving examination in 1976 at the Government College Kaduna.

AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, WAEC result
The council also confirmed that he had sat the exams using Razaq A.R. as contained in the credentials the governor repeatedly submitted to the INEC when contesting for elections.

The confirmation was contained in the certified true copy of the results of the governor and other candidates of the same set that the examination body forwarded to the Kwara State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ilorin.

The tribunal is chaired by Justice Bassey Efiong.

The PDP is challenging the election of AbdulRazaq on the allegation that he did not have WAEC results as required under the law.

The WAEC document, which is the statement of result and numbered exhibit P3B, was presented by Olorunsola Victor O., a senior examination officer with the Ilorin office of the regional body.

The witness, during cross-examination, also confirmed to the tribunal that at least 31 other candidates had their names abbreviated, putting to rest claims by the PDP that the WAEC did not allow abbreviations during that time.

The APC in its reaction said “It’s a complete waste of their time and resources.
Rather than investing in fundamentals of electioneering, they think they can shortchange through back door.

They went through this path too in 2019.
