The Kwara State House of Assembly on Tuesday approved another six Months Tenure Extension of Acting Auditor General of Kwara State, Fatai Adeyemi Tiamiyu.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Engr. Yakubu Danladi Salihu, who presided over the Plenary votes and proceedings examined and approved the proceding of July 10, 2022.
My Speaker read a letter from the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq requesting Legislative Approval for a 6 Months Tenure Extension for the Acting Auditor General of Kwara State, Fatai Adeyemi Tiamiyu which ended on 28th July, 2022.
He pointed out that the case of appointment of substantive Auditor General is still in court.
The Hon. House in line with sec. 126(3) of the 1999 Constitution of Fed. Republic of Nigeria, approved a 6-month tenure extension for the Acting Auditor General of Kwara State by the resolution of the Honourable House.
The clerk to the House was directed to communicate the Resolution to Governor accordingly.
The House of Assembly also received two petitions, which were read and laid on the Floor of the House. They were:-
(I) A petition on letter of Appeal in respect of a letter dated 9th September, 2021 on the Compulsory Retirement issued by Kwara State Civil Service Commission to Ajayi Oluwafunke Rachel on the allegation of illegal, unauthorized and un-procedural adoption of minor was read and presented by Hon. Ganiyu Folabi Salau (Omupo), the petition was referred to the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges
(ii) A petition on Re-letter of Complaints over plot of land for the purpose of filling Station/Gas station on a plot of land measuring 30 meter by 30 metre located along Asa-Dam-Egbejila road was presented and laid on the floor of the House by House Leader Hon. Magaji Abubakar Olawoyin (Ilorin Central).
However, the petitions were referred to the House Committee on Lands and Housing.
Hon. Mohammed Baba Salihu (Okuta/Yashikira) relied on Order VII rule 40 to present a matter of General public Importance on the total collapse of the Federal road that connects Moori bridge at Chikanda in Yashikira District of Barutean LGA.
According to him, Chikanda is an international border community under Yashikira District that directly shares boundary with neighboring community in Benin Republic in which on daily basis, over 4,000 people of varying businesses and cultural interests move across the Chikanda border to the neighboring Benin Republic and by extension, to Ghana, Togo and Ivory Coast.
The Honourable House, therefore, resolved as follows:-
(I) Urged His Excellency to mobilize resources for the team of Engineers from the Ministry of Works and Transport to fix the cut off part of the road for the use of the people.
(ii) Direct the Ministry of Works and Transport to Urgently move to the site of the scene and provide palliative measure.
Motion on Notice:
A motion on the Need For Kwarans to Inbibe the Culture of Protecting Public Utilities Within and Outside their Domain: KWHAM 4, was moved by Hon. Aliyu Wahab Opakunle (Afon).
Hon. Opakunle acknowledged that, the present administration under the His Excellency, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq brought Innovation to governance by embarking upon novel projects including but not limited to the Urban Renewal Scheme which encompasses projects such as interlocking and construction of Walkways, among others, in different parts of the state, and he was concerned, that good and laudable as these projects are, some members of the public for whom the projects are targeted and meant to serve seem to display attitudes of indifference to their maintenance as to stand the test of time and serve the purposes for which they are put in place have turning them to platforms to display wares and sometimes as extensions of shops and some other unacceptable uses.
The following Honourable members also contributed on the matter; Hon. Awodiji Omotayo Felix (Irepodun), Hon. Abdullah Halidu Danbaba (Kaiama/Kemanji/Wajibe), Hon. Awolola Olumide Ayokunle (Isin), Hon. John Bello (Lanwa/Ejidongari), Ahmed Rufai Adam (Patigi), Hon. Abdulgafar Olayemi Ayinla (Ilorin North/West), and Hon. Abdulkareem Babatunde Paku (Malete Ipaye/ Oloru).
The Hon. House resolved as follows;-
(i)- Urged the Governor to direct the Ministry of Communications to embark on sensitisation of members of the public through the mass media on the need to have attitudinal change on their perception of public facilities put in place to serve them;
(ii)- Urged the Governor to direct the Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of Works and Transport and the Ministry of Environment to invoke provisions of relevant laws to bring any member of the public that abuses use of public utilities to book; and
(iii)- Called on the Traditional Rulers and community leaders to sensitize their subjects on the need to jealously guard public utilities located in their domains.
The motion for Adjournment, thereafter, was moved by the House Leader, Hon. Magaji Abubakar Olawoyin (Ilorin Central), seconded by Hon. Ahmed Saidu Baba (Bani/Adena)
