EFCC Sensitises NYSC/EFCC CDS Group on Integrity, Personal Responsibility in Ilorin

The Head of Public Affairs Department of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Babatunde Ayodele, on Thursday, March 12, 2026, sensitised members of the NYSC/EFCC Community Development Service (CDS) Group on the need to uphold integrity and take active roles in the fight against corruption.

The sensitisation programme, which held at the conference room of the Kwara State Ministry of Environment in Ilorin, brought together about 80 corps members.

The engagement formed part of the Commission’s efforts to monitor and coordinate the activities of the CDS group while encouraging participants to understand the dangers of corruption, take ownership of the anti-corruption campaign and become ambassadors of integrity in their respective communities.

Delivering a lecture titled *“Integrity and Personal Responsibility,”* Ayodele emphasised that the fight against corruption begins with individual values and personal choices. He urged the corps members to reject fraud and other dishonest practices, stressing the importance of building a culture of honesty, responsible digital behaviour and the courage to resist peer pressure that could lure young people into internet fraud.

He also highlighted the dangers associated with cybercrime, warning that those involved risk arrest and prosecution, criminal records that could hinder international travel and employment opportunities, asset forfeiture and damage to family reputation.

According to him, the temporary gains from fraudulent activities are never worth the lifelong consequences.

He encouraged the corps members to pursue legitimate paths to success, and advised them to focus on entrepreneurship, digital skills development, professional growth and community leadership, noting that many young Nigerians have achieved success through hard work and integrity, without resorting to shortcuts or unlawful means.

He further challenged the participants to see themselves as anti-corruption ambassadors by educating members of their communities, promoting integrity in schools and youth groups, speaking out against corrupt practices and supporting lawful institutions.

“Nigeria will not change because of policies alone. It will change when young people decide that integrity is non-negotiable,” he said.

In her remarks, the CDS Group Supervisor, Abosede Gbolahan, commended the EFCC for its sustained collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps over the years.

She called for even stronger partnership between the Commission and the scheme to further empower corps members to contribute meaningfully to the anti-corruption campaign in the country.
