Police Crack Down on Kidnappers, Cultists, Violent Offenders in Major Security Sweep in Kwara

Ilorin – The Kwara State Police Command has reported significant breakthroughs in its fight against violent crimes, including kidnappings, cult-related activities, and homicide, following a series of intelligence-driven operations across the state.

Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, said the operations reflected the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property while ensuring transparency in public communication.

“These results show the dedication of our officers in dismantling criminal networks and securing communities. We urge the public and the media to accurately report these developments to reassure citizens about their safety,” he stated.

Among the cases highlighted was the arrest of 15-year-old Gobri Yusuf, accused of fatally attacking a female co-resident in Ilorin using household items.

The police said the suspect confessed to previous attempts to poison the victim, which had failed, and that he committed the act out of resentment. The suspect remains in custody pending formal charges.

In Ifelodun Local Government Area, three men—Bello Ori, Muhammadu Jemare, and Mohammadu Shehu—were apprehended for allegedly abducting construction workers along Owu Falls Road. Operatives traced the suspects through digital tracking after a stolen phone was detected in use.

The command also intercepted a suspected kidnapping syndicate in Oro-Ago, arresting ten suspects and recovering ten Bajaj Boxer motorcycles believed to be intended for criminal activities. The operation included a mechanic and a logistics operative allegedly supporting the syndicate.

Further successes included the arrest of Awawu Maliki Bodo, 23, at Dogo Fulani Camp in Moro LGA. Police recovered a revolver and live cartridges from her home while ongoing efforts continue to apprehend her accomplices.

Similarly, Zubairu Abubakar, Alhaji Issa, and Abdullahi Yahaya were intercepted along Duro/Kpada Road with a locally made revolver, live ammunition, and an unregistered motorcycle.

In another high-profile case, three suspected cult members were arrested following a fatal shooting at Kulende Area, Ilorin. Items recovered included firearms, charms, and portraits bearing cult insignia. One of the suspects reportedly admitted ownership of a pump-action firearm used in the incident.

The police also detained Sofiullahi Ibrahim Idowu, known locally as “ID,” in connection with cult-related violence at Oke-Bonke community, where he allegedly aimed a short gun at a responding officer.

Separately, Noah Olorunyomi was arrested in Erin-lle for allegedly killing one victim and shooting another during a cashew farm ambush.

Commissioner Ojo emphasized that these operations are part of the broader strategic vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, which prioritizes professionalism, intelligence-led policing, and operational efficiency.

“We commend our officers for their discipline, courage, and professionalism. Security is a collective responsibility, and we call on citizens to continue providing credible intelligence to help us keep Kwara safe,” he said.

These recent arrests and recoveries highlight a renewed drive by the Kwara State Police to dismantle criminal networks and curb violent crimes, sending a clear message to offenders across the state.
