NSCDC Upgrades Epe-Opin Outpost to Full Division to Tackle Security Challenges in Kwara

In a move aimed at strengthening grassroots security and improving rapid response to crime, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has commissioned a new divisional office in Epe-Opin, Ekiti Local Government Area of the state.

The facility, inaugurated on Monday, January 19, 2026, by the State Commandant, Commandant Umar Mohammed, marks the upgrade of the former outpost into a fully fledged divisional command, following growing security concerns in the area and its environs.

Commandant Umar said the decision was driven by the need to bring security services closer to the people and ensure quicker intervention in emergency situations.

According to him, the new division will enhance intelligence gathering, improve operational efficiency and deepen collaboration with local communities.

“This new division stands as a strategic investment in the safety of our people. It strengthens our capacity to prevent crime, respond promptly, and ensure that peace and stability remain non-negotiable in all communities under our watch,” he said.

The NSCDC boss commended the Executive Chairman of Ekiti Local Government, Hon. Awelewa Olawale Gabriel, for his consistent support, describing his commitment to security as a model of effective local governance.

He noted that the partnership between the council and security agencies shows a clear understanding that community safety is a collective responsibility.

In his response, Hon. Awelewa praised the NSCDC leadership for prioritising the security of Ekiti communities, assuring that the local government would continue to support initiatives aimed at sustaining peace and strengthening cooperation with security agencies.

Traditional rulers also welcomed the development, with the Elepe of Epe-Opin land, Oba Alabi Gabriel Odeniyi, describing the commissioning as a major boost to local security architecture.

He said the presence of a full divisional office would enhance collaboration between the traditional institution and security operatives in addressing security threats at the community level.

“The people will feel more secure knowing that security personnel are closer and better equipped to respond to issues as they arise,” the monarch noted.

The event also drew political stakeholders, including the Kwara State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Sunday Adeniran Fagbemi, who described the initiative as timely.

He said the new division would help deter criminal activities and further reassure residents of government’s commitment to the protection of lives and property.

The commissioning of the Epe-Opin divisional office is part of the NSCDC’s broader strategy to strengthen security presence across Kwara State and promote safer communities through collaboration with local authorities and traditional institutions.
