Rivers APC Rejects Impeachment Process Against Fubara
The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has kicked against the impeachment process initiated against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy.
The party warned that the move could destabilise the state and damage the party’s image.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the APC spokesperson in Rivers State, Darlington Nwauju, the party said it was alarmed by the “unfortunate developments” emerging from the Rivers State House of Assembly.
While acknowledging the legislature as an independent arm of government with constitutional powers of checks and balances, the party said resorting to impeachment at this time was unacceptable.
“Our position as at today is that we solemnly reject the impeachment process against our governor and his deputy,” the party declared.
The APC warned that lingering disputes from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) era must not be imported into the APC.
