15th Convocation: Al-Hikmah University moves to bring education closer to applicants – Prof Oladimeji

Al-Hikmah University, has concluded arrangements to bring education to the doorsteps of willing applicants with the introduction of different categories of programmes through newly approved platforms by the NUC.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lateef Oladimeji made this disclosure at the 15th Convocation Ceremony of the University on Thursday in Ilorin.
He said the University, which is the first Islamic faith-based university in the country, had perfected arrangements to float different categories of educational programmes.
Professor Oladimeji announced that Al-Hikmah University has received the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC) on December 11th, 2025 to commence academic activities through its Centre for Distance and e-Learning.
” The approval followed a successful NUC resource assessment visit to the University for B.Sc Computer Science programme under the distance learning mode.
“Consequently, the University shall commence admission into the programme in the 2025/2026 academic session,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor said the management of the institution had just established the Faculty of Computing Engineering and Technology, which currently houses the Departments of Computer Science, Data Science and Information Science.

” To further strengthen the Faculty, the University is at an advanced stage to commence new professional degree programmes in Architecture Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
“These programmes are designed to respond to the immediate needs of manpower in the highlighted disciplines and produce graduates with industry-relevant skills for the evolving technological landscape, Oladimeji added.
He reiterated the position of proprietors of private university in Nigeria to advocate for an inclusive national research funding framework, such as TETFUND, one that rewards excellence and innovation, regardless of institutional affiliation or ownership.
Choice Reporters recall that 2,833 graduands were awarded various degrees with 76 bagging first class at its 15th Convocation Ceremony held on January 7, and January 8, 2026 at Atere campus.
The breakdown included 1,008 second class upper, 996 second class lower, 112 third class, 77 Postgraduate Diplomas, 485 Masters and 79 PhD.
Prof Oladimeji said the Faculty of Agriculture in Igbaja campus has continued to assist Kwara State, in particular, and Nigeria, in general, to promote food sufficiency and security in the country as part of the University’s contribution and community engagement.
The University also gave honorary Doctorate of Business Administration awards to Alhaji Tajudeen Adeta-Eleku.
The State Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi, the founder and Chairman Board of Trustee, Alhaji (Dr) Abdulraheem Oladimeji among other dignitaries and traditional rulers were in attendance.
