Toyin Alabi Bows out as IPUNEC President, Ogunleye Assumes Leadership

The Igbaja Progressive Union National Executive Council (IPUNEC) has ushered in a new phase of leadership following the formal exit of Pastor Toyin Alabi as President and the emergence of Dr. Doyin Ogunleye as new leader .

The transition, widely regarded as smooth and forward-looking, signals continuity and renewed commitment to community progress.

The leadership handover was announced at a well-attended gathering that brought together traditional rulers, community elders, leaders of affiliated unions and associations, as well as Igbaja indigenes from across Nigeria and the diaspora.

The occasion marked the close of Alabi’s tenure and the beginning of Dr. Ogunleye’s administration, with a renewed emphasis on unity, security and sustainable development.

In his farewell remarks, Pastor Alabi expressed deep gratitude to the Elese of Igbaja, Oba (Dr) Ahmadu Arepo, community elders and members of the union for the trust and support accorded him during his time in office.

He described his tenure as a product of teamwork and shared purpose, and urged members to give their full backing to the new leadership while placing the collective interest of Igbaja above all else.

“Leadership is a relay race. At the right time, the baton must be passed so progress can continue. The interest of Igbaja must always come first,” he said.

Alabi’s tenure was noted for enhanced coordination among IPU branches, stronger stakeholder engagement and a renewed drive for unity among Igbaja sons and daughters at home and abroad.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Abdulrasaq Doyin Ogunleye pledged to lead with transparency, inclusiveness and accountability.

He assured members of continuity while outlining plans to address pressing challenges, particularly in the areas of security, community development, health and education.

“This position is a call to serve. Together, we will build on existing achievements and work diligently for a safer, more united and more prosperous Igbaja,” Dr. Ogunleye stated.

Traditional rulers and community leaders at the event praised the peaceful transition, describing it as evidence of institutional maturity and stability within IPUNEC.

Representatives of IPU Lagos, IPU Ilorin and IPU Igbaja, alongside delegates from Ifowosowopo Igbaja Development Association and the Igbaja People’s Forum (IPF), commended the outgoing chairman and pledged their support to the new leadership.

Observers noted that the change comes at a crucial period as the community intensifies efforts to tackle security challenges and fast-track development initiatives.

There was widespread optimism that Dr. Ogunleye’s leadership would deepen collaboration among community bodies and strengthen IPUNEC’s effectiveness.

The ceremony ended with prayers for wisdom and success for the new President, as well as tributes to Pastor Toyin Alabi for his service, reflecting continuity, unity and a renewed resolve toward the collective advancement of Igbaja.
