ADP calls for security overhaul, blames insecurity on weak intelligence coordination

Action Democratic Party (ADP) has called for a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture, saying the country’s persistent insecurity is driven by poor coordination, weak intelligence management, and not shortage of security personnel.
Mr Yabagi Sani, the party’s National Chairman, while addressing journalists on the state of the nation in Abuja on Monday, said insecurity persists due to political interference and corruption, amongst others
Sani said weak intelligence coordination, leadership failures, and lack of accountability within the security architecture were also factors undermining security in the country.
“Nigeria’s insecurity is not a manpower problem. Recycling individuals in a broken system can not deliver safety; only deep structural reforms can,” he said.
Sani said that on the state of the economy, recent reforms were implemented without social protection, worsening hardship for citizens already grappling with high inflation and declining purchasing power.
According to him, economic reform must not become economic punishment. A responsible government reforms and protects its people simultaneously.
He expressed concern over fiscal credibility, saying weak budget execution and rising debt servicing have stalled infrastructure and crowded out social spending.
“Budgeting without execution is not reform, and borrowing without assets is not development,” he said.
Sani said on the state of power supply, Nigeria’s generation of under 5,000 megawatts for over 220 million people continued to cripple productivity and force businesses to rely on generators.
He described the oil and gas sector as mismanaged, citing alleged daily crude oil losses of up to 400,000 barrels due to theft, leakages, and poor measurement systems.
“Nigeria estimates what should be measured. Accountability begins with transparent, end-to-end metering across the oil value chain,” he said.
He called for urgent reforms to the Weights and Measures Department to strengthen revenue protection and curb oil theft.
Sani said that the party ADP’s was offering a systemic reset focused on security reform, productive economy, disciplined finance, food security, and inclusive democracy.
He urged Nigerians to gear towards 2027 based on documented data of achievement of any government without bias to realities.
According to him, Nigerians must choose accountability, reform, and national renewal.
