The Chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Kwara Branch, Comrade Abdulrahman Onikijipa, has advised the public to patronize recognized parks, rather than patronizing on- the-road drivers during the yuletide season for their safety.
Onikijipa, who gave the advice in Ilorin on Thursday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the public must be cautious of patronizing on- the – road drivers all in the name of cheaper alternatives.
According to him, most passengers prefer patronizing on the road drivers than going to the park.
” It is safer to go to the park where you will be duly registered before embarking on journey.
” During Yuletide season, we have different people parading themselves as transporter but have evil agenda.
” I urge the public to be careful and not just board a road side driver. Most of them are dangerous.
” The festive season is too busy and there are different kinds of people with different mindsets. Prioritize your safety by going to a recognized park for proper documentation,” he said.
The chairman also urged drivers not to pick passengers on the road and be safety conscious.
He advised motorists not to pick passengers by the road side , especially bushy areas due to insecurity in the country.
Onikijipa also advised motorists to exercise absolute caution and avoid over speeding.
” Motorists should visit expert to check the condition of their vehicles before embarking on any journey,” he advised.
