Police Tighten Security in Ilorin After Daylight Robbery Leaves Driver Injured

 

Residents of Ilorin have been urged to remain vigilant following a daring armed robbery along Post Office Road on Friday morning, which left a commercial driver nursing a gunshot wound.

The Kwara State Police Command confirmed that the incident occurred around 11:30am when armed men attacked the driver of a Sienna vehicle and escaped with an undisclosed amount of money.

The victim, who sustained an injury to his palm, is currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

In a statement issued in Ilorin by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, the command assured residents that investigations have been launched to track down the perpetrators.

According to the PPRO, the Police Commissioner has already ordered “a discreet and thorough investigation to ensure those behind the attack are identified and apprehended.”

SP Ejire-Adeyemi added that the command has intensified security patrols across Ilorin to restore public confidence. “The CP has strengthened deployments and increased police visibility within the metropolis to reassure residents of their safety,” the statement read.

The Police Commissioner also advised residents to minimise the movement of large sums of cash and to embrace online transactions whenever possible. He further urged those who must move cash to make use of trusted bank escort services.

CP Adekimi appealed to the public to promptly report any suspicious persons or movements around banks and financial areas, stressing that timely information could help prevent similar incidents.
