The story of Chief Abdulganiyu Ibrahim Kunle Akogun is one that celebrates destiny, resilience, hard work, and a lifelong commitment to community service. From his modest beginnings as a press boy to his ascent as a High Chief, Akogun’s journey stands as a glowing inspiration.
His nomination—and subsequent endorsement—by the Elesa of Oke-Ode, Oba Muftau Akanbi Adebayo Ibrahim Ilufemiloye I, as the new Chief Akogun of Oke-Ode is a well-deserved recognition of decades spent in selfless service.
Born in Oke-Ode about six decades ago, Akogun’s educational journey began at Oke-Ode Grammar School before he proceeded to the then Kwara State College of Technology, Ilorin.
He later earned his first and second degrees from the University of Lagos. His academic competence and professional distinction have earned him membership in several respected professional bodies, including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Fourth Estate Professional Society, and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), among others.
A veteran journalist and public relations expert, Akogun has carved a notable niche for himself in Nigeria’s media landscape. His passion for community development inspired him to take on key roles such as National Public Relations Officer of the Oke-Ode Community Development Association (OCDA) and Vice Chairman of the Igbomina Ekiti Muslims Forum (IEMF). Through his influence and networks, many young people from Oke-Ode have secured admission into the University of Ilorin, an impact that continues to shape futures across generations.
Akogun’s contributions to the growth and visibility of Oke-Ode are immeasurable. Leveraging his resources, connections, and professional expertise, he has helped position the town as a progressive entity within Kwara State and beyond. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, he was honoured by the Supreme Pacesetters Club of Kwara State.
Widely regarded as “a man of the people,” the new Chief Akogun embodies humility, compassion, and unwavering devotion to community good. As the 8th Akogun of Oke-Ode, he steps into the shoes of his late elder brother, Chief AbdulRauf Tunde Akogun, to continue a legacy of service, leadership, and honour.
His life exemplifies the saying, “A tree is known by its fruits.” Akogun’s achievements are unmistakable fruits of perseverance and excellence. As he takes on this revered title, he acknowledges—as he often says—that “chieftaincy is not a symbol of pride but a call to responsibility.”
Beyond his professional prowess, Akogun is a warm and approachable leader. His humour and simplicity endear him to colleagues and subordinates alike. As a supervisor, he combines professionalism with empathy, creating a work environment where team members feel valued and motivated. His passion for work is infectious, his dedication inspiring, and his sense of camaraderie uplifting—qualities that make him admired on and off the job.
The Elesa’s approval and ratification of his nomination testify to his integrity, credibility, and years of unwavering service. It reflects a community’s trust in a man who has consistently used his voice, influence, and expertise to uplift others.
Chief Akogun’s life story demonstrates how one individual, driven by purpose and passion, can transform an entire community. His commitment to service, education, and excellence continues to inspire many—within Oke-Ode and far beyond.
As he assumes this noble responsibility in thè community, may he continue to prosper in wisdom, knowledge, understanding and leadership:
“Akogun àgbàlagbà oyè, à je gbó, à je tó. Ẹ ó fowó páwú, ẹ ó fèrìgì jobì. Ẹ ó lọ ipò náà pé kánrin kèsè. Láṣẹ Olódùmarè.”
