Oluwatosin Medaiyese Hails Gen. Musa’s Appointment, Says Nigeria Gaining a Seasoned Defender

Former Labour Party chieftain and 2023 Kogi State House of Assembly candidate, Hon. Oluwatosin Medaiyese, has congratulated Nigeria’s newly appointed Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa, describing his emergence as a major boost to the nation’s security architecture.

In his message, Medaiyese said Gen. Musa’s elevation reflects his long-standing dedication to national service and his record of credible leadership.

“Your appointment is a testament to your proven leadership, dedication to national service and unwavering commitment to the peace and security of our nation,” he stated.

He expressed confidence that the former Chief of Defence Staff would bring his deep military expertise to bear in strengthening the armed forces and tackling the country’s security challenges.

“I am confident that your wealth of experience will contribute significantly to enhancing national security and safeguarding the unity and stability of Nigeria,” Medaiyese added.

The Kogi-born politician also offered prayers for the new minister, saying, “I pray that God grants you the wisdom, courage and vision needed to excel in this noble assignment.”

Gen. Musa, who led the Nigerian military as Chief of Defence Staff from June 2023 to October 2025, was nominated by President Bola Tinubu on December 2, 2025 and confirmed by the Senate the next day.

He replaces Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who resigned due to health reasons. Musa is widely respected for his role in counter-insurgency operations, especially in the Northeast, and has earned recognitions such as the 2012 Colin Powell Award for Soldiering.

His appointment comes at a time when Nigeria faces persistent threats ranging from banditry to insurgency and widespread kidnappings, with expectations high that he will help reposition the country’s defence system for greater effectiveness.
