NIS CG appoints Akuneme commandant of Kano training school

The Comptroller-General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mrs Kemi Nandap, has approved the appointment of Comptroller of Immigration (CI) Tony Akuneme as the new Commandant of the Immigration Training School, Kano.

This is contained in a statement by the Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO), Akinsola Akinlabi, on Friday in Abuja.

Akinlabi said that the posting was in line with Nandap’s vision to reposition the NIS training institutions nationwide.

He said that the deployment reflected the Comptroller-General’s commitment to strengthening capacity-building structures.

This, he said included improving staff welfare and aligning NIS training standards with those of other elite security agencies.

Akinlabi said that the Service expects the new Commandant to bring his vast experience in communication, public relations and border management to bear on the duties ahead.

This, he added were particularly in enhancing training modules and promoting improved service delivery in line with the NIS mandate.

Akinlabi added that the posting takes immediate effect.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that before Akuneme’s new assignment, he served as the Comptroller in charge of Illela Border Command, Sokoto, and had also been the FCT Command Comptroller and the Service’s Public Relations Officer.

He previously served as Immigration Attaché at the Nigerian High Commission in Canada and as Immigration Desk Officer at the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission in the Presidency.
