Tinubu Halts Foreign Trips, Orders Massive Security Reinforcement in Kwara After Attack on Church

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended his planned trip to South Africa and Angola to allow for further security briefings following the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the deadly attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church, Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The President, who was billed to attend the 20th G20 Summit in Johannesburg and later the 7th AU-EU Summit in Luanda, directed the military and police to immediately deploy additional personnel to Eruku and surrounding communities.
He issued the directive after receiving a request from the Kwara State Governor for urgent reinforcement.
A Presidency source said Tinubu is deeply concerned about the resurgence of violent attacks.
“The President is pained by the attack on innocent worshippers and the kidnapping of schoolgirls. He wants results, not excuses,” the source noted.
Tinubu also issued a fresh order to security agencies to track down the bandits responsible for the Eruku church attack.
He is awaiting reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi on his behalf, as well as updates from the police and Department of State Services on the Kwara incident.
The President reaffirmed that rescuing the 24 abducted schoolgirls remains an urgent national priority. “Everything possible must be done to bring the girls home safely,” Tinubu insisted in the directive conveyed through his media aide, Bayo Onanuga.
Onanuga added that the President will remain in Abuja until he is fully briefed and satisfied with the pace of security operations aimed at restoring calm in the affected communities.
