Distinguished community leader and entrepreneur, Dr. Oluwatoyin Alabi, has strongly condemned the recent attack on Eruku, a quiet and hardworking town in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.
He described the incident as barbaric, cruel, and an affront to the peace-loving people of the region.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Dr. Alabi expressed deep sorrow and concern over the growing insecurity threatening rural communities across Kwara South, insisting that the attack on Eruku must not be treated as just another tragic headline but as a wake-up call demanding urgent and decisive government intervention.
“The news of the attack on Eruku left me deeply heartbroken. This is not merely an attack on a town, it is an attack on our collective humanity, our peace, and our right to live without fear.
“Eruku is known for its resilience, hospitality, and communal unity. To have such a peaceful place violated in this manner is unacceptable and must be condemned by all,” Dr. Alabi said.
He decried the emotional trauma and economic disruption caused by the incident, adding that no community should be forced into constant fear due to the activities of criminals, who have no regard for human life.
“The psychological scars left on innocent residents, especially children and the elderly, are wounds that may take years to heal. Our communities cannot thrive under the shadow of violence. This is why the government must rise to the occasion like never before,” he added.
Dr. Alabi called on the Kwara State Government, security agencies, and federal authorities to act swiftly by deploying advanced security measures, increasing surveillance, and ensuring that perpetrators of the attack are tracked, arrested, and prosecuted.
“This is not the time for silence or half-measures. I urge the government at all levels to treat this attack with the seriousness it deserves.
“The people of Eruku deserve justice, and they deserve the full protection that the Constitution guarantees,” he charged.
He also appealed to community leaders, youth groups, and traditional institutions in Kwara South to remain vigilant and strengthen their internal security cooperation mechanisms while awaiting broader governmental intervention.
Expressing his solidarity with the people of Eruku, Dr. Alabi extended heartfelt sympathies to affected families and prayed for the swift recovery of those injured.
“My heart goes out to every home touched by this tragedy. May God comfort the bereaved, heal the wounded, and restore peace to Eruku and all surrounding communities. We stand with you, today, tomorrow, and always,” he said.
Dr. Alabi added by reaffirming his commitment to using his voice, influence, and platforms to advocate for safer communities, equitable development, and the protection of all residents across Kwara State.
It would be recalled that two people were killed following an attempted bandit attack in Eruku town on Monday evening, according to the Kwara State Police Command
