Attack on CAC Eruku: Kwara CAN Says Incident Dark Moment for the State

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kwara State Chapter, has condemned the violent attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area, describing the incident as a painful and frightening departure from the state’s long-standing record of peace.

The attack, which occurred during a revival service, left some worshippers dead while several others were abducted. CAN said the development was “grievous, unacceptable and a direct assault on the sanctity of the church.”

“This wicked and barbaric attack is an affront to God and an attack on the entire Christian community,” the State Chairman, Bishop Sunday Adewole, said. “Invading a church during a service violates our peace, our freedom of worship, and our shared humanity.”

The association urged security agencies, including the Police, DSS and NSCDC, to urgently comb the area, track down the attackers, and rescue the abducted persons. CAN also called for heightened surveillance to prevent further attacks.

According to the State Secretary, Apostle Shina Ibiyemi, the association has notified the Kwara State Government and security chiefs and has also reached out to the national leadership of CAN, which is “fully aware and standing in solidarity.”

As part of its response, Bishop Adewole and Apostle Ibiyemi visited Eruku to commiserate with the CAC congregation and the wider community. They were received by local officials and held prayers for the victims, their families and the entire community.

“To our brothers and sisters in Eruku, you are not alone,” Bishop Adewole said. “We share in your pain and agony, and we pray for the safe return of all abducted persons. May God’s peace and protection rest upon Eruku and the whole of Kwara State.”

CAN urged Christians across the state to remain calm, prayerful, vigilant and united during this difficult period, praying that “God will heal our land.”
