12-Year-Old Girl Dies After Falling Into Domestic Well in Ilorin

Tragedy struck a family in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State on Saturday morning when a 12-year-old girl, Nabilat, reportedly fell into a domestic well while fetching water.
The incident occurred around 10:35 a.m. at Busari Alao Street in the Ikoyi Community of Irewolede.
The Kwara State Fire Service confirmed that the victim’s body was recovered and handed over to her family. According to the statement released by PFO Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity for the Fire Service, the firemen were alerted by a resident, Mr. Mayowa, who witnessed the incident.
“The girl went to fetch water, and during the process, one of her legs slipped, causing her to fall into the well,” the statement said.
Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and urged parents and guardians to exercise caution. He specifically warned against sending underage children to fetch water from domestic wells, emphasizing the importance of vigilance in day-to-day activities.
“This is a heartbreaking incident, and we call on everyone to prioritize safety at home and in their communities to prevent such avoidable accidents,” Prince Olumuyiwa said.
