Kwara Firefighters Swift Response Prevents Petrol Tanker Explosion in Eyenkorin

A swift intervention by men of the Kwara State Fire Service on Friday prevented what could have been a major fire disaster after a petrol tanker conveying 45,000 litres of fuel overturned at Kpasa Bridge along the Ogbomosho Express Road in Eyenkorin.

The tanker, which was reportedly en route from Lagos to Sokoto, overturned as a result of brake failure, leaving it lying upside down and spilling some of its content.

On receiving a distress call around 8:03 a.m., firefighters from the state command quickly arrived at the scene to contain the situation.

They cordoned off the area, drenched the surroundings to suppress heat from the spilled petrol under the scorching sun, and ensured that the volatile product was safely transferred into another empty tanker.

Their timely and professional response prevented the highly flammable substance from igniting, thereby saving lives, property, and motorists plying the busy route from possible tragedy.

Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, commended the team for their bravery and urged drivers, especially those transporting flammable products, to always maintain their vehicles and observe safety rules on highways.

“Safety consciousness is the best prevention against avoidable disasters on our roads. Regular checks on braking systems and adherence to safety procedures can make a big difference between life and tragedy,” he advised.

The incident caused minor traffic disruption but was brought under control without casualties, thanks to the prompt action of the firefighters.
